With the butcher knife being used over and over in the old slasher films, we take a look at the top 6 most under rated weapons.

6. The Icicle
The glistening point of an icicle may appear to be just the sign of a cold winters day, but why, oh why hasn’t this seemingly deadly piece of mother nature never been used for killing? The visuals of blood dripping, and freezing onto the point of an icicle are all too rare. Not to mention the scene of the arctic for a good slasher is still mostly unused. So come on killers, use the icicle! I mean, think about it, the murder weapon will just melt away!

5. The Candlestick
The candlestick, the culprit for many a killings on the deadly board of ‘Clue’…yet on the silver screen, it lays untarnished in the background. Fighting to make an apperance but falling short, only landing gigs holding up candles for Séances. Still a valuable tool, and possibly one of the most brilliant blunt weapons ever thought of.

4.Plastic Bag
Ah, the plastic bag…the incarnation of everyone’s worst fears of suffocation. The simplicity of the weapon…a simple swipe over the victims head, leaving them squirming to attempt to suck any minute amount of air into their lungs. Perhaps not very gory, but clean, quick, and cruel.

Horror Short Story: Heartbreak Hotel Part 3: Finally

The 3 part Heartbreak Hotel ends today.

She heard the creak of the door, and quickly shoved the phone in her pocket before Asher opened it.
“Are you girls having a nice time?” He asked and Dana stared at him.
“You’re fucking crazy!” She yelled and lunged at him, punching him in the nose.
He staggered back, dropping the tray and she shoved past him, running for the stairs.  She heard him behind her, and with a whimper of fear, she began to run faster.  Just as she reached the top of the stairs, Asher tackled her and they tumbled down the stairs together.  For a moment Dana laid on the floor, feeling as if every bone had been broken, then she pushed herself up and limped into  the kitchen.  She started going through the drawers, looking for a weapon.  Then found one just as Asher appeared in the doorway.
“Stay back,” she said, holding the butcher knife in front of her.

Horror Short Story: Heartbreak Hotel Part 2

Continuing from last weeks Heartbreak Hotel Part 1, now, part 2. Thank you to Hybrid for such a great story!

Dana bolted out of bed and quickly dressed, grabbing her backpack.  She ran out of the room and down the hall, praying that she wouldn’t meet Asher or his mother on her way out.  It was thundering and lighting as she ran out, but she didn’t care.  She would rather take her chances in the storm, then spend the night in the hotel.  She ran to her car, as the rain pelted her, then stopped and stared in disbelief.  All of her tires had been slashed, and she felt a chill that had nothing to do with the rain.  Somebody didn’t want her to leave, and she knew who that was.  She looked back at the hotel, not wanting to go back inside, but not having much choice.  She would barricade herself in her room, and wait out the night.
She ran back into the hotel, and stopped.  The same woman she had seen in the mirror was standing at the top of the steps, beckoning her.

Societies Downfall: AIDs Parties and Pregnecy Pact

Today, I present the first of an ongoing series: Societies Downfall. Todays media is reporting stories that just make you question, where are we going as a human race? While maybe not be considered scary, but it is chilling to hear some of the madness that is occurring.

Micheal Neil of Coberg Australia is accused of hosting “conversation parties” in which he attempted to infect his company with AIDs. He is now looking at 30 charges, including deliberately infecting two people with HIV and attempting to infect others. His long term goal was to increase the amount of members attending HIV infected…orgies. [via]

In Gloucester High School, 17 girls made a pact to become pregnant, and raise the children together. None of these girls, over the age of 16, are now pregnant with the children of nameless 20-something men. When one girl went to the nurse to ask for a pregnecy test, and when that test returned positive, she high fived her friend in celebration. [via]

Ah, its a great sight, to see society crumble beneath our feet!

Horror Short Story: Heartbreak Hotel Part 1

I give you, the first part of our first piece of indie horror short stories, Heartbreak Hotel by Urbis user Hybrid.

“Since my baby left me, I found a new place to dwell….”
Dana curled her lip and turned off the radio, she was in the car, fleeing a bad relationship.  She didn’t need reminds of that.
She looked at the clock and realized how late it was.  She better find a hotel to spend the night.
The road she was on was deserted and there didn’t seem much hope for a hotel to pop up.  Just as she had that thought she saw a sign, “Heartbreak Hotel 5mi.”
“Heartbreak Hotel,” she thought cynically, “appropriate.”

French Steampunk Horror: La Cité des enfants perdus

I had the pleasure of watching one of the most incredible films I have seen in quite some time, ‘La Cité des enfants perdus’ (City Of Lost Children). While the movie was French with subtitles, it was cinematically incredible.

The science-fiction / fantasy world that was created was absolutely jaw dropping, for the nerd in us all. The steampunk style of every little machine and device was perfect. While
the steampunk world has become rather popular over time, this is the first mainstream movie I have seen to pull it off right.

The plot was the most original I have heard of in far to long. A mad scientist who had designed clones of himself, and a far supieriour mad scientist who killed his creator, and begins to steal the nightmares of children.

When the Krank, the evil inventor, kidnaps One’s (Ron Perlman of Hellboy) little brother, needless to say, One bands together with the children to bring an end to Kranks reign.

A brilliant movie to say the least, I can’t speak enough about it. Check it out! You won’t regret it!

The Happening Reviews Round Up

M Night Shyamalan’s latest film, ‘The Happening’ has become what many assume as another blunder. Many critics calling it an “M. Night-mare”, asking “What Just Happened?” and claiming “Shyamalan’s Lost Sense” and the box office is confirming is failure. However, with another failed horror movie, brings a long more interesting reviews, so I share with you, a few.

“This is not going to be a popular review, and I am okay with that. Ever since my fifth grade report on the deterioration of the ozone layer due to manmade pollution, I have had an eye for the environment. I may not be a full-blown granola-head but I believe in the fragility of our ecosystem and the adverse role humans can play in it. Apparently, so does M. Night, as his latest “don’t give away the plot” spine-tingler is a very science-based, disturbingly effective eco-thriller.”

“Those coming to the movie expecting another “Bruce Willis is really a ghost” type twist ending with which some appear to expect from Shyamalan will be sorely disappointed. At this point in his career, it should be obvious that Shyamalan is more than a one-trick pony, a weaver of supernatural O. Henry stories that send their audiences out theater doors into the bright sunlight of a much safer and rational world than the one they just witnessed, their minds still reeling from a last minute storytelling hairpin curve. Instead, Shyamalan is a fantasist with a fascination for the human condition. He is more concerned with exploring human emotion and reaction than he is with presenting the spectacle against which these stories invariably play against. And while he may have recently stumbled with last year’s Lady In The Water, this initial draft of The Happening shows a writer/director working very much on all cylinders.”

While the reviews may be mixed, M. Night Shyamalan will always steal my heart.

The Strangers: Review

‘The Strangers’, is based on ‘true events’ surrounding the grisly murders that took place on the night of February 11th, 2005. From the hollow echoes of the record player that seem consistent throughout the movie, to the relentlessness silence in between major scenes, this movie will remind you of what it’s like to have a shiver run down your spine when you’re alone. The surprisingly artistic and deeply disturbing nature of the film creates an eerie yet tense atmosphere is what really makes the movie good; the balance of gore and psychological horror that is exhibited in this thriller brings a nice shock value to the table that you don’t see every day; and that’s something that really makes this movie worth the money.
